so, it was flippin' freezing cold thursday night and houston freaks out over cold weather. so, freezing rain means whitney doesn't leave the house. and all i had was a pound of ground beef. so, i attempted to make chili. now, of course i went online and googled the hell out of chili recipes - but everything called for too much of what i did not have. so, this is how i winged it:
INGREDIENTS:
this doesnt even count. literally. all i did was find anything spicy in my spice cabinet:
garlic
chili powder
onion powder (didnt have any onions)
rotel (didnt have any jalapenos to add to tomatoes)
paprika
ground cumin
leaf oregano (the only thing i remember a recipe having)
ketchup (because i didnt have any tomato paste, etc)
salt
pepper
i basically just browned the ground beef, drained it and plopped it into the crock pot.
which, by the way, would be the most awesome amazing thing ever - but i dont know any recipes for it. normally i would just scour google and find something, but the last time i did that. well, lets just say it was a dump in the pot ribs recipe - and for some reason i ended up making it look like alpo dog food. never touched ribs again.
anyway, i kept the adding to around half tablespoons, because that is what most of the recipes online had. i ran out of chili powder half way through my first tablespoon. so i added a sprinkle of crushed red peppers. and dumped all of that into the pot.
i put the sucker on high and just waited until it started to smell up the kitchen with half assed chili goodness. maybe, 45 minutes?
it tasted good. now, it wasnt the most flavorful pot of chili, but nick liked it. i was actually proud of myself for winging a recipe. in the words of my father, "it'll make a turd."
